The mission of the Department is to produce economists of excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels who will have the capacity to explain concepts and theories in economics and explore their policy implications.
Objectives
The main objective of the undergraduate programme is to train students to be critical in their thinking, to be knowledgeable, and have the skills to analyse issues in the discipline. The specific objectives are to:
- Assist students to develop the skill of critical thinking and analysis
- Develop the capacity of students to evaluate the various concepts and theories in economics and explore their policy implications
- Equip students with skills to apply the concepts and theories in dealing with contemporary economic issues
- Expose students to theoretical and applied research
